Family Mediation Leicester

WHAT IS FAMILY MEDIATION?

Family mediation is a really workable alternative for couples who need to resolve important differences that have arisen between them as a result of their marriage or relationship breaking down. It can also be used where disagreements have arisen over how children are to be looked after when parents are separating such as where the children will live and with whom.

Most people know it can be very expensive to sort out their disputes through family lawyers particularly if court proceedings are involved. Unfortunately, this cost to the family comes at a time when finances are already strained – possibly because there is the expense of two homes to run instead of one.

Family mediation can provide an answer to these problems for some couples. However, you should make sure that you find a mediator who is properly qualified to undertake this work. You should check to make sure that your mediator has become accredited through the Family Mediation Association or through Resolution. You then have the best chance of finding your own solutions to your marital or relationship breakup problems in a managed way using an experienced mediator qualified to work with the kinds of issues you are facing.

Recently, the Government declared its support for the mediation process by introducing a protocol that if one or both parties want to issue court proceedings in family matters, they must first attend a meeting with a qualified mediator who will explain the process and the benefits of mediation to them. The mediator also assesses the couple for their suitability for mediation during this meeting. This is called a Mediation and Information Assessment Meeting or MIAMS.
