If you would like more information about family mediation and what happens next please use the contact form or ring Glynis Wright on 0844 225 2790. Glynis will be happy to answer your queries.
Glynis is an experienced Leicester based family lawyer and Resolution accredited mediator and runs her own family law and mediation practice at First Floor, 5 Bowling Green Street, Leicester LE1 6AS. She will be able to discuss the mediation process in more detail with you and any other information you require to help you to decide if you wish to try mediation. She likes to deal with all enquiries personally and therefore you should not hesitate to ask for Glynis by name.
Glynis believes that it is a good idea for both parties to attend a short meeting with her on their own in the first instance so that she can answer their individual queries or concerns about mediation. These individual meetings do not have to be long and can then move to a joint meeting on the day if that is agreed. Alternatively, a separate meeting on a different day can be scheduled for the first joint meeting to get the ball rolling and to set the agenda for future meetings.
In some cases, Glynis may determine it is necessary or helpful to continue to see parties alone and for information to be “shuttled” between them. This is known as “shuttle mediation” and is appropriate where there are particular issues that may prevent one or both parties feeling able to meet jointly. Sometimes this is only necessary for one or two meetings. In other cases, shuttle mediation may be needed for longer. The point is that the mediation process is very flexible and can be used in many different ways.
Glynis might also suggest from time to time that co-mediation may be appropriate. This is where more than one mediator becomes involved in some or all of the meetings. This does not have to involve an extra cost but can be of great benefit to the parties where the dynamic of the meeting is improved by having mediators with different strengths or approaches.
However, for the majority of mediation meetings, both parties will be present with Glynis as their sole mediator. The agenda will be agreed and set at the outset. The number of meetings will be flexible and will depend upon how much progress is made in dealing with the important issues identified by each party and whether the parties are happy to continue. The mediation process must suit the needs of the individuals and therefore cannot be prescribed at the outset. It is part of the mediation process itself to establish what works well for people and this can only be accomplished where a flexible approach is adopted.
By way of background, Glynis completed her academic training in law in 2001 graduating from De Montfort University with multiple distinctions and being granted “Student of the Year” status for the highest academic achiever of that year. She completed her training as a solicitor with an established Leicester law firm and was promoted to Family Law Partner within that firm within a record 2 years of qualifying as a Solicitor. She developed and maintained a vibrant, busy family caseload specialising in all family matters and then went on to qualify as a Family Mediator with Resolution in March 2010.
Glynis is now running her own niche family law and mediation practice in the City of Leicester at First Floor, 5 Bowling Green Street, Leicester LE1 6AS.
